About The Position

Pacific Cancer Care (PCC) is seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Admixture Assistant to support our new Los Gatos Medical Oncology clinic, opening in 2026. This role is integral to the preparation of intravenous medications, including chemotherapy and other investigational therapies, and supports the delivery of safe, precise, and compassionate cancer care. As a core member of PCC’s interdisciplinary oncology team, the Admixture Assistant ensures accuracy, safety, and compliance within a highly regulated clinical environment. This position is ideal for individuals with strong aseptic technique, excellent mathematical and organizational skills, and a steadfast commitment to patient safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent — Required (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or certification by a board-approved organization (PTCB) — Required
  • Current California Pharmacy Technician License — Required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience preparing intravenous or hazardous medications in a clinical setting
  • Oncology or investigational therapy experience preferred
  • Completion of a recognized aseptic technique training program (e.g., ASHP fundamentals)
  • Hands‑on sterile preparation or externship experience
  • Familiarity with oncology workflows and clinical trial protocols
  • Knowledge of medication safety standards and quality‑assurance processes
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments to support patient care and operational excellence

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and charge intravenous medications, including chemotherapy and clinical trial therapies, in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.
  • Review all medication orders for completeness and accuracy prior to preparation.
  • Perform dosage calculations and verify volumes and measurements to ensure precision.
  • Operate safely and accurately within horizontal and vertical laminar flow hoods using strict aseptic technique.
  • Select appropriate needles, syringes, containers, and supplies based on medication type and route of administration.
  • Perform daily inventory counts of medications and supplies; report discrepancies, shortages, or overages as required.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and expiration‑date management of medications and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate logs related to inventory control, temperature monitoring, and quality assurance.
  • Perform and document routine cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area, including laminar flow hoods and biologic safety cabinets, in accordance with policy.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous medications and contaminated materials in compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
  • Deliver prepared medications and supplies to patient care areas in a timely and secure manner.
  • Maintain required patient and medication records in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Participate in medication‑related incident reporting, including equipment malfunctions or process deviations.
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing, providers, and clinical leadership to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality of patient and proprietary information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
