Texas Oncology is looking for an Admixture Technician to join our team! This position will support the Rowlett and Garland locations. This is a full-time Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5pm position with no weekends, call, or major holidays. This position will be either a level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.   • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
  • Provide support with inventory control of medications. Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
  • High School diploma or equivalent for Level 1.
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy for Level 1.
  • Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills for Level 2.
  • I.V. certification preferred for Level 2.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended for Level 2.
  • Minimum five to seven years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills for Level Sr.
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience for Level Sr.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college based program recommended for Level Sr.
