About The Position

The Admitting Tech at UnityPoint Health - Allen is responsible for creating accurate and thorough registrations for each patient visit. This role involves obtaining demographic and financial information, as well as securing necessary signatures for successful billing submission. The Admitting Tech will collect patient liability before or at the time of service as defined by the patient’s insurance plan and identify patients who may need financial assistance. The position requires interaction with patients in a customer-focused and compassionate manner to ensure their needs are met. This is a part-time position on the 2nd shift from 3:30 PM to 12 AM, with a requirement to work every 4th weekend and rotating holidays.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1-year medical office or equivalent experience preferred
• Fluent in English (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking)
• Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsers

Responsibilities

• Register patients
• Review and gather patient demographics and insurance information
• Understand insurance cards and policies, including co-pays and deductibles
• Acquire and explain all required patient signatures for consents
• Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls
• Create and present visit estimates
• Ask for payments
• Meet point of service goals and standards
• Balance and close cash drawers
• Attend mandatory staff meetings, huddles, and training as required
• Work independently and in a team setting
• Abide by EMTALA and HIPAA guidelines
• Respond to high volumes of communication regarding open shift needs
