About The Position

Gulfport Behavioral Health System (a UHS facility): Gulfport Behavioral Health System, is a 90-bed psychiatric hospital offering child, adolescent, adult and military service behavioral health programs and treatment services. For more information, please visit us at www.gulfportbehavioral.com/ Position Summary: The Admissions Specialist is a member of the Intake Team and is responsible for coordinating aspects of the admissions process. This includes the efficient and effective handling of inquiry calls, processing of referrals for possible admission, knowledge of and communication with referral sources and customers who present for assessment. Additional responsibilities include insurance verification/precertification, patient registration process, vitals, wanding, patient observations, scheduling of evaluations, admissions processing, bed board monitoring, belongings searches, and other non-clinical duties as assigned by admissions leadership team. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, mental health, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a human service, social service, psychiatric, or mental health setting, performing administrative duties, crisis intervention, telephonic triage and inquiries, and customer service.
  • Additional Requirement: Certification in CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI). Certifications may be obtained during new hire orientation.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnosessymptomology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis and behavior management.
