Requirements

  • An associate's degree with two years of experience in academic advisement, international student services, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience equal to four years.
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage professionally and empathetically with students and faculty.
  • Critical thinking and judgment skills for making informed decisions.
  • Proven customer service skills, demonstrating patience and persistence.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree with prior experience as a DSO.
  • Working knowledge of SEVIS procedures and legal requirements for international students.
  • Multiple language competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on the admissions process for prospective international students and their families, including requirements and visa options.
  • Participate in local and international recruitment opportunities as a representative of the college.
  • Review and manage documents submitted for admission, make admissions decisions, and issue immigration documents.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and maintain the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
  • Advise students on immigration petitions and applications, including new F-1 visas and work permits.
  • Liaise with transfer institutions and refer students to appropriate contacts for assistance.
  • Support international students facing personal or economic crises that may impact their academic performance.
  • Collaborate with staff to design and implement programs for F-1 international students, including orientation.
  • Conduct assessments for programs and develop retention strategies.
  • Respond to student inquiries via various communication platforms.
