About The Position

Shorewood Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking full-time Admissions Counselors/Social Workers to facilitate admissions and clinical intake assessments at a new state-of-the-art 120-bed behavioral healthcare facility in Madison, WI, set to open in fall 2024. This role is crucial for ensuring continuity of care for patients dealing with mental health and substance use disorders, particularly during night shifts on weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a social services field required (if state allows).
  • Master's degree in a social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN required.
  • Three or more years' experience in mental/behavioral health working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity preferred.
  • Experience in the managed care pre-certification process, level of care assessments, and utilization preferred.
  • Current licensure as required for the area of clinical specialty (e.g., RN license, CAC, or other clinical counseling or therapy license).
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be required based on state or facility.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Perform benefit eligibility checks to ensure patient benefits are active at the time of admission.
  • Communicate benefit eligibility to the business office and the patient or significant other.
  • Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel for appropriate recommendations regarding pending referrals.
  • Coordinate admissions and transfers from referral sources and between levels of care within the facility.
  • Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
  • Communicate projected admissions to designated internal representatives promptly.
  • Ensure all clinical information from referral sources or patients is received prior to admission.
  • Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with the admitting physician, and communicate disposition recommendations to patients or their families.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate medical record documentation for authorization at the requested level of care.
  • Complete initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission prior to admission, when possible.
  • Admit patients in the registration and accounting system and complete all admission and consent forms with the patient.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers.
  • Acknowledge and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met.
  • Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
