The Admissions Representative at Shepherd Center plays a crucial role in the registration of patients, acting as a liaison between various departments and ensuring smooth communication regarding hospital policies and services. This position involves direct interaction with patients and requires a dynamic approach to handle emergency and urgent admissions effectively.

  • Responsible for admissions/discharge/transfer data input in Cerner.
  • Provide support for the outpatient registrars if necessary.
  • Identify carriers that fall under managed care.
  • Work with referral sources regarding services available.
  • Assist in handling routine referrals and problem-solve issues related to inquiries and customer questions.
  • Provide support to clinical evaluators via faxing clinical evaluations, loading referrals, and ensuring contact is made with the housing coordinator.
  • Monitor quality of admissions data and modify incorrect data as needed.
  • Act as a team player with other Admissions staff to provide full support to clinical evaluators.
  • Forward information regarding emergency admissions, urgent admissions, or changes in financial information that require immediate attention.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of college preferred.
  • Five (5) to six (6) years of hospital front line experience.
  • Experience in automated systems.
  • Overall knowledge of business office procedures and hospital policies.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer skills.
  • Knowledge of insurance carrier's names.
  • Typing speed of 30-40 wpm accurately, familiar with general office equipment.
