About The Position

The Admissions Registered Nurse is primarily responsible for completing the RN admission process for patients being admitted through the ED. This includes admission assessments, screenings, medical history, medication reconciliation, full-body skin screening, Braden risk assessment, imaging of identified skin disruptions, and initiation of pressure injury protocol. The role involves engaging in collaborative relationships with peers and other professional disciplines, applying leadership principles, and taking responsibility for professional growth and accountability. The nurse provides responsible and accountable nursing care based on American Nursing Association standards and the Florida Nurse Practice Act, utilizing the nursing process to identify nursing diagnoses. Additionally, this position involves leadership in fostering a safe working environment and positive relationships, acknowledging hospice as an affiliate of Halifax Health, and contributing to policy formulation and staff education. Operational duties include managing intake/admissions, prioritizing tasks, coordinating staffing, reviewing medical records for eligibility, managing referrals, ensuring smooth admission processes, meeting productivity goals, and strategizing on admission barriers. Financial responsibilities cover budget adherence, human resource allocation monitoring, and maintaining departmental resources. Compliance and Quality Assurance involve meeting state and federal regulations, modeling ethical standards, and providing compliance education. Human Resources tasks include implementing HR policies, interviewing and hiring, ensuring staff orientation and education, recognition, and corrective actions. Other duties include proficiency in information technology systems and public speaking.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed as a RN in the State of Florida
  • Bachelor degree/diploma/associate degree from an accredited School of Nursing
  • 2-5 years of floor nurse experience including hands-on admissions workups
  • Certifications as required by individual unit/area
  • Professionalism in interpersonal communication skills with patients, patient families, colleagues, physicians and ancillary department personnel
  • Personal professional development, accountability, organization and leadership in the performance of professional nursing practice
  • Must be customer-service oriented and able to effectively communicate and build relationships with co-workers and key stakeholders at all levels in the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to assist in providing exceptional care for our patients and their families

  • Provide responsible and accountable nursing care based on established clinical nursing practice standards subscribed to by the American Nursing Association and in accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act
  • Be responsible for the delivery of care utilizing the nursing process of assessing, collecting and documenting data in order to identify nursing diagnoses
  • Provide safe working environment and promote positive relationships through regular communication and collaboration at all levels in the organization, providing constructive and feedback that fosters success of team and individual team members
  • Acknowledge hospice as an affiliate of Halifax Health, a system in which we collaborate, share resources and work interdependently for the common good of the community we serve
  • Responsible for formulation and updating of department policies and procedures and development of standards, in-services or other educational materials for the patient or department
  • Supervise, evaluates, and provides ongoing education through field visits, documentation review, and annual performance review
  • Support and maintain organizational standards set for dept
  • Successfully conduct day to day operations and management of Intake or admissions department
  • Provide direction in prioritizing tasks, reporting results to senior leadership
  • Coordinate staffing and scheduling personnel to meet patient needs
  • Review medical records to determine if patient meets eligibility guidelines
  • Ensure referrals are seen within organizational standard requirements
  • Manage all pending and cancelled referrals
  • Review and collaborate with field team leadership on discharged patients who are eligible for readmission
  • Ensure referral to admission process is smooth and referrals are scheduled same day
  • Meet productivity goals and standards
  • Strategize with staff on difficult barriers to admission of referrals of medically eligible patients
  • Schedule and assign appropriate staff to assure ensure patient needs are met and team success 7 days per week
  • Ensure data collection to track department goals are met and successfully implement improvements as needed
  • Adherence to department’s budget
  • Monitor human resource allocation to ensure that department is within FTE allocations and eliminate overtime
  • Maintain adequate resources for departmental operations
  • Ensure Departmental activities meet compliance with all state and federal regulations
  • Model high ethical standards, advocating against fraud and abuse
  • Provide education to staff related to compliance with policies, procedures and standards
  • Knowledgeable in implementation of system Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Interview and hire qualified new employees
  • Ensure adequate staff orientation, supervision and ongoing education
  • Allow for staff recognition
  • Provide corrective actions and educational plans to maintain set standards
  • Proficient in use of information technology systems
  • Public speaking as assigned
