JOB PURPOSE: Pomona College seeks a dynamic professional staff member who is eager to develop their knowledge in the field of admissions and enthusiastic to contribute to the operations of a highly collegial and driven admissions team. The Admissions Officer handles all aspects of student recruitment traveling throughout the year to represent Pomona College at school visits, college fairs, and other admission related programs. This position conducts regular information sessions on the College’s campus for students, counselors and families, and assists the planning of campus-based programs throughout the year. The Admissions Officer reads admissions applications for an assigned territory and makes recommendations to the Admissions Selection Committee. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Admissions & Director of Special Projects, the Admissions Officer performs the following essential duties and responsibilities: 1. Perform recruiting and admission functions for a designated national territory: Travel to designated national territory to visit high schools, college fairs, community colleges, community-based organizations, and participate in group travel. Contact, meet, recruit and work to enroll prospective high school and transfer students to the College. Send and respond to inquiries and correspondence about the admissions process in a timely manner. Advise students seeking information about professional careers paths through Pomona College’s academic and social opportunities with a broad liberal arts education, including internships, study abroad, minors and double majors. Assist students with the application process. Read, evaluate and rate applicant admission materials to make appropriate recommendations to the Admissions Selection Committee and to meet the College’s annual enrollment goals. Follow up with admitted students. Serve as the College liaison to students, their parents and the communities in their assigned territory. Serve as a liaison with high school counselors including scheduling appointments to meet them. 2. Support campus-based programs throughout the year with the goal of leading programming in the future. 3. Provide input and feedback on the functioning of admissions programs and initiatives through regular staff meetings and staff development days. 4. Co-manage the Slate Inbox with a group of colleagues to distribute admissions inquiry emails to the correct person(s) in the Admissions Office. 5. Assist with the evaluation process and planning of summer admissions sessions for the Pomona College Academy for Youth Success (PAYS). 6. Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts and sciences field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience working with high school students and counselors is preferred, but not required. The ability to speak a language other than English is also preferred, but not required. Experience at an academic institution is preferred. Demonstrate effectiveness and clarity of verbal and written communication with excellent interpersonal communication skills to facilitate, motivate, mentor and inspire a diverse group of colleagues, student workers, and stakeholders from a wide variety of backgrounds. Must handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, tact, and a keen eye for detail. Provide exceptional customer service through timely and thoughtful responses to e-mails, phone calls, and other modes of communication. 4. Able to operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software (such as Internet research, menu-driven databases.). 5. Able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the admissions team in support of the College’s strategic vision and the division’s annual enrollment goals. 6. Must understand and communicate the mission and history of the College’s liberal arts and sciences environment. 7. Must have exceptional organizational, time management and judgement skills to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail and to handle extensive reading. REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required at least four times a year to assigned territories. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This position is a regular, full-time, exempt position. Annual Salary for this position is between $70,304 - $73,000 with a competitive benefits package. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to: education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior roles.
