About The Position

Working in close coordination with the Access Team in the Admissions office, the Admissions Officer for Diversity, Outreach and Access supports the division’s engagement with critical student and counselor populations to ensure that Carleton continues to improve its recruitment and retention of students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Strong understanding of the nature and aims of a selective, residential liberal arts college.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm for and demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse student body.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of creativity and innovation in problem solving and strategy implementation.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for counseling students and families.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • A willingness to work extended and weekend hours during peak periods.
  • Leadership skills: Highly collaborative, dynamic, empathetic, and patient.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 6 months of professional admissions experience.
  • Proficiency or fluency in a language other than English.
  • Prior experience with and knowledge of Slate CRM.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in all aspects of the general admission cycle, including maintaining a recruitment territory and designing targeted recruitment travel.
  • Reads first-year and transfer applications with the intent to recommend students for admission.
  • Leads information sessions to provide an overview of the liberal arts experience at Carleton.
  • Conducts on- and off-campus individual interviews to assess a student’s interest in and fit for admission.
  • Advises prospective students on admission and financial aid policies and practices in written and verbal communication.
  • Reports and monitors as a member of the Admissions Access Team, with project lead responsibility for Access Team initiatives.
  • Represents the College to external agencies and groups, including attending regional, national, and international conferences and meetings.
  • Works to create and encourage an open, welcoming, and inclusive environment in admissions.
  • Leverages Technolution’s Slate CRM to communicate, recruit, and monitor engagement with students, parents, college counselors, and other relevant influencers.
  • Coordinates special projects/tasks and/or provides assistance to divisional programming and events, particularly the Carleton Liberal Arts Experience program.
