About The Position

This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt, non-benefits eligible position. POSITION SUMMARY: The Office of Admission at Pomona College seeks a thoughtful and detail-oriented individual to serve as an International Outside Reader. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Admissions who oversees reader training and the reading process, the International Outside Reader assists in the evaluation process of international applicants for the college’s entering first-year class. The International Outside Reader plays a key role in the evaluation and selection of international applicants from Subcontinent and Central Asia, from our Committee Based Evaluation (CBE) process through committee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Previous international admission or application review experience required.
  • Strong writing, critical thinking, and time management skills.
  • While this is a remote position, the International Outside Reader must reside in California.
  • The International Outside Reader is expected to commit 20-30 hours per week and must be available to read in tandem with another reader from Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in education, counseling, writing, or related fields strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with a liberal arts curriculum strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Holistically review international first-year applications using the Pomona College Office of Admissions criteria.
  • Evaluate academic records across global curricula and contexts.
  • Assess non-academic components within cultural and educational context.
  • Prepare concise written evaluations and present cases in international committee.
  • Apply policies consistently, meet deadlines, and uphold confidentiality.
