About The Position

Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, or "CRMC", is a 25-bed, non-profit, critical access hospital serving Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma since 1949. As a rural hospital, CRMC is surprising because of its large size and wide variety of services. Although we can provide many of the same services you will find in a big city, we take great pride in our friendly and caring staff. The Financial Counselor works with patients and families to advise and plan for payment of services on patient accounts. S/he prepares and maintains payment arrangements, plans and coordination of benefits on behalf of the patient to maximize up front collections.

Requirements

  • Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to make decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills in teaming with patients, medical staff and the public
  • Detail oriented with proven ability to multitask
  • Professional appearance and ease in developing rapport with others
  • Understanding of billing, patient care, and excellent customer service
  • Ability to type 45-60 WPM

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in billing office setting, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review scheduled patient procedures with insurance and prior authorization to inform patient of their financial obligation for services
  • Contact patients prior to scheduled services to advise of financial costs and payment arrangements
  • Counsel patients on financial options available to them
  • Work with patients to arrange acceptable payment for services
  • Work with patients to make credit plans on delinquent or current accounts
  • Use discretion and judgment in making firm financial arrangements for the Financial Assistance Program (501R)
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy
  • Record any and all collection efforts taken on individual accounts
  • Process Employee Discounts and Payroll Deductions for CRMC associates
  • Process M&I grant reviews and write offs
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned
