About The Position

The Admissions Counselor organizes and executes undergraduate recruitment programs and initiatives, working closely with fellow members of the Enrollment Management team and other campus partners, to attract and enroll students to the University. Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, this role is centered in service and supports student success by recruiting a dynamic and diverse student population. Regular on-campus presence is required, but occasional remote work is possible upon approval.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree and two to four years of higher education or other relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office suite and the ability to learn new software programs.
  • Ability to efficiently work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective interviewing skills for one-on-one interviews as well as public speaking skills for group presentations.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work environment where the workload, speed, and type of work varies throughout the admissions cycle.
  • Robust writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • Multi-tasking, creativity, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, demonstrate organizational skills, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to accept constructive feedback in order to improve work performance.
  • Desire to have fun in a professional team setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Education or professional experience at liberal arts institutions.
  • Experience working with a customer relationship management (CRM) system in a higher education admission capacity.
  • Experience with Slate.
  • Foreign language proficiency, especially fluent Spanish-speaking, is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact to assist prospective students and families through their college/university search and application completion.
  • Reading applications for admission and scholarships.
  • Provide information about FAFSA, housing application, registration, etc.by strategic communication efforts (via email, telephone, and other communication resources).
  • Establish and nurture relationships with high school counselors and campus constituents as part of larger enrollment strategies and initiatives.
  • Articulate the value of a liberal arts education to diverse audiences through regular virtual and in-person presentations, one-on-one meetings, and other forms of communication.
  • Contribute to the enrollment mission, vision, and values through regular participation and occasional leadership in Enrollment Management Action Teams.
  • Review and evaluate applications for admission. Approximately 400 per year.
  • Serve as a liaison to specific departments and functional areas across campus. Liaison roles are assigned based on the needs of the office.
  • Develop an outreach strategy for prospective students, build and nurture relationships with high schools, and develop a recruitment travel plan for local and out-of-state territory responsibilities.
  • Travel independently and represent the University in varied capacities.
  • May be designated as essential personnel in cases of campus closure or emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
