About The Position

MTC operates the Joliet Job Corps Center in Joliet, IL, providing quality services to local youth. The company values professional and caring employees dedicated to improving people’s lives. The Admissions Counselor is responsible for conducting direct recruitment activities and interfacing with other outreach contractors in compliance with government and management directives. This role involves developing linkages with referral sources, participating in center tours, contacting potential enrollees, arranging candidate reception, following up on student progress, preparing and providing outreach presentations, maintaining accountability logs, generating prospects, referring youth to support agencies, preparing reports, assisting with placement activities, initiating applications, and supporting applicants with document uploads. The incumbent is also expected to promote career success standards, support and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy, maintain property accountability, and adhere to safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field; or an associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field and two years related experience required
  • Experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs
  • A Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct direct recruitment activities, including public speaking; develop linkages with referral sources such as human services agencies, recreation centers, youth organizations and churches; participate in center tours; contact potential enrollees to explore enrollment
  • Arrange for reception of candidates upon acceptance to the program
  • Follow-up on student progress, e.g., length of stay and separation
  • Prepare, schedule and provide outreach presentations in the assigned area; provide outreach presentations in support of the regional outreach efforts
  • Maintain accountability logs of organizations contacted, individuals contacted, referrals to screening agencies and subsequent enrollments
  • Generate sufficient amount of prospects to sustain OBS. Coordinate and communicate current OBS levels and ongoing needs to maintain OBS
  • Refer youth to designated screening or other support agencies, as appropriate
  • Prepare necessary and required reports related to the recruitment effort
  • Assist with placement activities
  • Initiate applications with interested prospects during outreach events
  • Support applicants with document upload, as needed
  • Promote the development of career success standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy
  • Maintain accountability of property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
