About The Position

The Department of Admissions has an outstanding opportunity for an Admissions Counselor to join their team. Working within the Office of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor will recruit and advise prospective undergraduate students, both Transfer and First Year students, to meet the undergraduate enrollment targets of the University, and increase the profile and image of the University. With direction from the Admissions Leadership Team, the Admissions Counselor executes recruitment plans and is responsible for ensuring results are consistent with the overall mission and strategic plan for the Admissions Office. The Admissions Counselor builds and maintains relations with people and organizations to help meet the university's recruitment goals. Under the supervision of an Assistant Director of Admissions, with direction from the Associate Director of Admissions and Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor will create and implement recruitment strategies to better serve the prospective student population for assigned programs and territories. The Admissions Counselor will advise prospective students on the admissions process, admissions requirements, and eligibility for admission to the university and assist students with identifying majors of interest to help with academic planning and career options. Admissions application evaluations will be conducted, and the Admissions Counselor will make recommendations in determining admissibility for each student. The Admissions Counselor is expected to be knowledgeable in all academic programs, student resources, and university offerings to best inform prospective students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in recruiting, advising, counseling, or similar experience working with individuals from a broad range of backgrounds in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge and experience of admissions processes.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding measurable goals.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with colleagues, the public, students, faculty, and diverse community members including those from various cultural and socio-economic groups.
  • Ability to use technology to collect data, create reports, and document work.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Presentation and advising skills that demonstrate commitment to best methods including use of technology.
  • Must be dependable, accurate, have attention to detail, be a good team member, and possess an empowering attitude and patient temperament to work with a variety of student situations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able and willing to operate a university vehicle.
  • Must be able to lift/move approximately 50 pounds of recruiting materials, displays, and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-5 years professional work experience in recruiting, advising, counseling with diverse populations in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to student records, information systems, admissions, and registration.
  • Experience reviewing admissions applications.
  • Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel prospective students through in-person meetings, group information sessions, phone, e-mail, or web communications, regarding major courses of study, career options, program eligibility requirements, degree requirements, admission requirements, and the opportunities available at the university.
  • Deliver information sessions.
  • Participate in the professional admissions and advising community to strengthen professional knowledge base and to reinforce UW Bothell name recognition.
  • Build and maintain relations with UW Bothell academic programs, student resource departments, and external constituents, and make referrals for students to appropriate services.
  • Maintain ongoing, thorough knowledge of academic, co-curricular, and financial aid programs to provide comprehensive and factual information that will allow prospective students to make informed decisions.
  • Develop and implement recruitment plans for assigned programs and territories which will include on-site and virtual events such as college fairs, school visits, workshops, advising appointments, and other recruitment activities.
  • Utilize CRM to generate and review reports and queries to aid in developing plans for recruitment.
  • Generate applications and enrollments through the cultivation of relationships within assigned programs and territories to meet established goals.
  • Support all recruiting and advising activities through the Office of Admissions.
  • Lead community and business outreach efforts to recruit a diverse and academically talented student population.
  • Participate in on-campus recruitment events such as Preview Days, Admitted Student Days, and specialized campus visits and information sessions.
  • Engage in ongoing strategic communications to include phone calls, text messaging, email, and other media to ensure high conversion/yield rates
  • Work closely with campus stakeholders to execute strategies to meet enrollment goals.
  • Conduct holistic application review and ratings of assigned applications.
  • Serve on Admissions Committees as needed and act as a liaison with assigned programs and schools.
  • Work with Operations Team to ensure timely processing of applications and updating of records as needed.
  • Meet application review deadlines to allow for admission decisions to be released on schedule.
  • Utilize CRM to assist with updating student records and school contacts.
  • Deliver campus tours as needed in absence of tour guides.
  • Provide coverage for Welcome Desk as needed in absence of staff.
  • Attend professional development conferences, workshops, and events that will increase knowledge and competency in admissions counseling.
  • Contribute to and support the implementation and maintenance of innovative recruiting and advising strategies, with particular responsibility for assigned academic programs and territories.
  • Contribute to on-line and printed advising materials.
  • Attend and support department and university events.
