About The Position

Mercer University is seeking an Admissions Counselor for its Atlanta, Georgia campus. This role is primarily responsible for the recruitment and admissions of working adult students into undergraduate programs offered by the College of Professional Advancement, Tift College of Education, and Stetson-Hatcher School of Business. The scope includes students for the Atlanta and Macon Campuses, Henry Co. and Douglas Co Regional Academic Centers, and Distance Learning programs. Key responsibilities involve recruitment travel, inquiry development, student interviewing, professional presentations, and correspondence. The Admissions Counselor reports to the Director of Adult Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment and collaborates regularly with Marketing and Communications for ATL/RAC, all Academic Program Directors, and staff members engaged in admissions, alumni and development, and career service functions. Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
  • Valid driver's license
  • Insurable by the university's carrier
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications for letters, mailings, etc.
  • Ability to understand the specific needs of working adult students
  • Planning, organizing and management skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products to maintain accurate prospect management
  • Polished presentation/public speaking skills
  • Fine-tuned organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to conduct interviews and presentations to prospective students and their families
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written abilities that positively reflect upon Mercer University with diverse populations
  • Ability to meet and exceed set goals
  • Availability to travel to event locations (sometimes driving long distances requiring overnight stays) during early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed
  • Capability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrates strong ethics, motivation, and a commitment to excellence
  • Capable of working independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative and cohesive team
  • Successful Criminal History Check

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in business, marketing, leadership, counseling or education
  • Prior experience in admissions/recruitment or a similar sales oriented role

Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment of qualified students by participating, as needed, through feeder institution visits and presentations, general college fairs, corporate visits, open houses, Chamber events, etc.
  • Meet with area employers and Mercer alumni in support of new student recruitment.
  • Participate, as needed, in the general functions of the office -- student interviews, school visitations, open houses, college fairs, etc.
  • Recommend to Director of Adult Undergraduate Admissions, policy and practices designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the admissions office.
  • Assist with the strategic planning activities of the offices of admissions.
  • Show initiative and leadership in assuming new responsibilities, identifying enrollment opportunities, and setting a standard of professionalism for the admissions staff.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty and staff from other departments on campus.
  • Conduct recruitment travel.
  • Perform inquiry development.
  • Conduct student interviewing.
  • Deliver professional presentations.
  • Handle correspondence.
