About The Position

Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services. In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the facility offers services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women’s trauma unit. This position is every other weekend!

Requirements

  • A valid State of Pennsylvania Nursing (RN) (Registered Nurse) License, Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology or Human Services field, or Masters in Social Work.
  • Prior intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting.
  • Previous psychiatric, behavioral or mental health experience is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to work every other weekend.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephone using the appropriate greeting and attempts to obtain all pertinent clinical, demographic and insurance information from the caller to determine caller’s needs.
  • Keeps aware of calls waiting in the queue which require immediate attention.
  • Performs telephonic risk screening to determine level of suicidality/homicidality with caller in crisis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of admission criteria for inpatient and outpatient levels of care and is able to determine appropriate service recommendations for each individual.
  • Provides referral recommendations to appropriate resources whenever a caller is not appropriate for Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital services.
  • Interfaces with insurance companies to obtain and/or verify eligibility and authorizations for services and relays information to the UR Department via the admission billing packet.
  • Conducts walk-in and scheduled assessments, coordinates with the reviewing psychiatrist, and makes appropriate clinical recommendations for the individual seeking care.
  • Conducts assessments for pre-accepted patient transfers (direct admits) coming from hospitals and other approved referral sources.
