POSITION DESCRIPTION COUNTY OF HAMILTON , INDIANA POSITION: Admissions Coordinator DEPARTMENT: Community Corrections WORK SCHEDULE: As assigned STATUS: Full-time FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt HOURLY RATE: $35.1336 per hour To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Incumbent serves as Admissions Coordinator for Community Corrections, responsible for conducting intakes of program participants in all components, as well as coordinating the supervision of participants referred to other jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in criminal justice, social service, or related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain required certifications/training within time specified by department, including offender assessments/testing, first responder/CPR, defensive tactics, verbal de-escalation, and disease control.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of local, state, and federal regulations and standard policies, procedures and legal terminology of the department and the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
  • Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, program participants and their families, social service providers, and employers, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to follow personnel policies and work rules of the employer/ department, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions from supervisor, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
  • Ability to properly use all assigned equipment, including two-way radio, electronic monitoring equipment, alcosensor, handcuffs, OC spray, and baton.
  • Ability to properly use various department equipment, including computer, printer, typewriter, copier, fax machine, cellular telephone, and pager.
  • Ability to deal swiftly, rationally and decisively with potentially violent individuals, and de-escalate volatile situations by means of conversation/negotiation, occasionally by physical force, as situations demand.
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information/records according to state requirements.
  • Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
  • Ability to regularly work evening hours, occasionally work extended and/or weekend hours, and occasionally travel out of town for training and meetings, sometimes overnight.
  • Ability to serve on 24-hour call for emergencies.
  • Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrate a safe driving record.
  • As a result of the duties associated with this job, there is the potential of becoming exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious diseases. To safeguard employees and eliminate the liability placed on Hamilton County, employees working in this position shall begin the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination and subsequent training within 10 days of their initial job assignment per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030(f)(2)(i). The initial and two subsequent vaccinations shall be administered by the Hamilton County Health Department and free of charge to the employee. If the employee has previously received the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination, official documentation must be provided to the supervisor identifying the dates in which each shot was appropriately administered. A Temporary Medical Declination may be made for a period of up to six months. A Declination form must be completed, outlining the medical reasons for the temporary declination and forwarded to the Safety & Risk Manager. Employees temporarily declining the vaccine are prohibited from performing any duties in which they may be exposed to a blood borne pathogen or other potentially infectious disease until they are able to begin/continue the series of vaccinations. Failure to comply will result in termination of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts participant intake, including completing required forms, explaining program rules and contract terms, and executing contracts.
  • Aids in the Department’s evaluation process by conducting a variety of participant assessments.
  • Searches participants, their home and property for contraband according to prescribed procedures, and tests for illegal drugs and alcohol, including collecting urine samples and operating alcosensor.
  • Installs and maintains electronic monitoring equipment.
  • Enters program participant daily activity schedule.
  • Coordinates the supervision of participants referred to other jurisdictions, monitors participant compliance, and maintains various documents and computer files for these cases.
  • Prepares detailed reports monthly for each participant.
  • Prepares and files various documents with the court and testifies in court proceedings.
  • Maintains current and accurate case files.
  • Periodically performs duties of other department personnel in their absence or as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal rules/regulations, new developments, technology and trends in the field of community corrections by reading professional publications and periodically attending training/seminars/conferences.
  • Serves on 24-hour call for emergencies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
