The Admissions Clerk is responsible for efficient and courteous registration, transfer, and discharge of patients. This role also serves as a general receptionist for the hospital, greeting patients and visitors in person or by phone in a courteous manner. The clerk provides general information concerning the hospital and/or patient's condition, operates communication systems, assists in locating patient's families, determines patient needs, and escorts patients to appropriate areas or arranges transportation. Key duties include maintaining a roster of inpatients, reporting daily on admissions and discharges, maintaining elective admission schedules, preparing necessary records for admission, payment, and discharge, pulling patient charts, maintaining appointment schedules, handling money, and retaining custody of hospital keys. The position also involves operating various office equipment and performing cashier duties.
