Requirements

  • An advanced degree (Master's required/doctorate preferred) in Education, Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, or Psychology is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a specialized educational setting.
  • Proficiency in the understanding and interpretation of formal and informal educational and psychological assessments.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of neurodevelopmental and language-based learning disabilities (e.g., Dyslexia, Expressive/Receptive Language Disorders, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, ADHD) and direct experience working with this student population.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional discretion.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills with a kind and supportive demeanor.
  • Proficiently uses Google Workspace (Drive, Docs & Sheets) and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial phone screenings and uses professional discretion to determine if prospective students are appropriate candidates to receive an official application link.
  • Reviews and interprets complex application files, including neuropsychological and psychoeducational reports, to determine if an applicant's profile aligns with the Stephen Gaynor School’s service model.
  • Administers sound, informal educational assessments to evaluate candidates for admission; must have the ability to differentiate or adjust on the spot based upon a student's performance.
  • Utilizes advanced task analysis during student evaluations to precisely interpret learning profiles and identify necessary educational supports for success.
  • Prepares organized and detailed evaluation reports, analyzing a candidate's performance through a professional educator's, neurodiversity-affirming, and anti-bias lens to determine appropriate placement and support at Gaynor.
  • Conducts student observations, as necessary, at the candidate's home school or at Gaynor before a final admissions decision is rendered.
  • Maintains meticulous written notes on all conversations and ensures clear communication with the Admissions team regarding each applicant's status in the process.
  • Works collaboratively with the Associate Director of Admissions to continually reflect on and ensure the efficacy and reliability of all evaluation practices.
  • Conducts engaging school tours for prospective parents, effectively articulating the mission, specialized curriculum, and unique learning profile of a Stephen Gaynor School student. Specific, in-depth knowledge of the school's instructional practices is essential.
  • Builds a warm, professional, and welcoming rapport with all applicants and their families.
  • Participates in and actively supports admissions and onboarding events for new and prospective families, both on and off-site.
  • Collaborates on the planning and execution of all admissions events.
  • Engages in strategic community outreach to broaden awareness and accessibility of the Stephen Gaynor School for families seeking specialized education.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with external experts and referral sources to strengthen the community's understanding of Gaynor’s specialized work.
  • Remains current with all facets of the Stephen Gaynor School, including curriculum, teaching methodologies, and school policies.
  • Builds strong, collaborative rapport with Gaynor faculty and staff.
  • Aligns with and demonstrates a deep understanding of the Stephen Gaynor School's mission, specifically by supporting the school's commitment to access and inclusivity.
  • Represents the mission of SGS with professionalism to all colleagues and families, internally and externally.
  • Attend full faculty and staff meetings, as well as other required meetings.
  • Willing to commit to anti-bias and anti-racism work and to promoting inclusion, belonging and equity through their work in the classroom and school community.
