About The Position

The School of Architecture at the University of Virginia is seeking applications for an Admission Officer or Director of Admission. The final title and scope of responsibilities will be determined based on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the school's student body by overseeing and implementing all aspects of student recruitment, admission, and yield efforts for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the Admission Officer/Director of Admission contributes meaningfully to the student experience, supports strategic enrollment goals, and promotes equitable access to information and resources to ensure student success.

Requirements

  • Admission Officer: Bachelor's degree and minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in admissions or a related field (8 or more years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree). Experience gained while a student may be considered.
  • Director of Admission: Bachelor's degree and minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in admissions or a related field (12 or more years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree). Experience gained while a student may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Recruitment & Yield Coordination: Develop [Director of Admission only], implement, and oversee a comprehensive recruitment and yield strategy to support enrollment goals. Coordinate faculty, staff, students, and alumni to represent the school in various outreach efforts, including in-person, virtual, and regional events hosted by the School or UVA. Note: Some evening/weekend hours and limited travel are required.
  • Prospective Student Engagement - Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students via in-person meetings, phone, and email. Advise on academic opportunities and available support resources.
  • Presentations & Stakeholder Communication - Prepare and deliver professional presentations to prospective and admitted students, families, and other stakeholders.
  • Admissions Strategy & Process Management - Coordinate and oversee holistic graduate admissions and undergraduate transfer admissions processes, ensuring consistency, equity, and transparency. Lead strategic enhancement to admission practices in alignment with federal, state, and institutional policies [Director of Admission only].
  • CRM Management (Slate) - Manage the School's CRM (Slate), identify best practices, and train staff on effective usage to support recruitment, admission, and yield efforts.
  • Data-Informed Decision Making - Collect and analyze data to evaluate recruitment and yield outcomes. Develop [Director of Admission] or recommend [Admission Officer] policy and process changes based on enrollment trends.
  • Student Leadership & Supervision - Supervise and mentor a team of Student Ambassadors.
