About The Position

The Trellis School is a K-12 non-public school providing therapeutic interventions tailored to children with autism. We are a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)-approved and Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities (MANSEF)-affiliated, non-public elementary, middle, and high school for children in kindergarten to twelfth grade, serving male and female students from age 5 through 21 in multi-grade classrooms. The Admission Compliance Transition (ACT) Specialist is responsible for ensuring admissions and compliance standards for all students in The Trellis School, in accordance with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 3 years special education teaching experience required

Responsibilities

  • Admissions Review referral packet to determine any issues with compliance and route packet to appropriate staff members in a timely manner
  • Contact parents and invite for intake as appropriate
  • Coordinate start date with the school’s administrative team
  • Communicate acceptance/declination to the referring county
  • Send student’s information for cost sheet and acceptance letter to Director of Billing
  • Communicate student’s start date to all necessary parties, including school team and transportation department
  • Ensure compliance with Individualized Education Program (IEP) and services the school is able to provide prior to student starting
  • Schedule IEP meetings with Local School System (LSS) representatives, school team, and parents; send calendar invites to all appropriate staff members
  • Communicate any rescheduling of IEP meetings as needed
  • Communicate with LSS representatives regarding necessary changes to the IEP or related to the IEP meeting
  • Review any necessary portions of the IEP to ensure compliance with COMAR and the school’s procedures
  • Compile documents and ensure their delivery to student’s parents and LSS representative
  • Serve as the IEP chair for all IEP meetings which includes: conduct all meetings, print final paperwork, and disseminate according to the ‘5-Day Rule’
  • Maintain and update all necessary documents required by COMAR
  • Assist Education Director in the development and updating of the school’s policies and procedures according to COMAR
  • Ensure maintenance of Student Records
  • Assist the school team in preparing for upcoming MSDE site visits
  • Attend MANSEF and MSDE meetings as appropriate
  • Ensure accuracy in the transition sections of student IEPs
  • Collaborate with the Transition Coordinator to support families with applying for and accessing services
  • Monitor compliance of educational programming for transition age students
