About The Position

The Administrator on Duty in Nursing Administration at UPMC Pinnacle Memorial is responsible for coordinating the activities of admission, discharge, and transfer of patients to support throughput in the facility. This role provides direction to department leaders to ensure safe staffing levels while maintaining efficient hospital throughput. The Administrator serves as a resource for all staff, applying competent knowledge and skills to achieve quality outcomes, and provides interim leadership including crisis management intervention as a representative of hospital administration. The position involves channeling pertinent patient, employee, and department information to appropriate internal and external sources.

Requirements

  • BS/BSN required; if BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience required with relevant leadership experience preferred.
  • Must maintain a solid/strong performer rating on annual performance review.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.

Nice To Haves

  • CNL/MSN preferred.
  • Experience in crisis management and patient throughput improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Involves staff and key stakeholders to achieve optimal patient experience and efficient hospital throughput.
  • Demonstrates accountability to self and others for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Identifies problems impacting effective hospital function and initiates corrective action independently or through contact with appropriate administrative persons.
  • Evaluates staff, addresses and improves clinical issues, and devises solutions to complex problems.
  • Mentors and positively impacts the lives of patients, families, peers, and members of the healthcare team through education and knowledge sharing.
  • Participates in professional and advocacy organizations to influence the external environment.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Oversees and coordinates patient placement through the Admission/Discharge/Transfer (ADT) process.
  • Acts as a preceptor for student nurses and assists with the development of new preceptors.
  • Monitors and assists in maintaining a safe physical environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
  • Uses critical thinking skills to advise and direct healthcare providers in patient care delivery.
  • Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in patient throughput.
  • Shares expertise with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintains positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, and patients/families.
  • Mentors and role models continuous learning through formal education.
  • Serves as a leader supporting hospital administration by identifying and resolving patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement.
  • Coaches colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace issues.
