About The Position

Anti-human trafficking work is a major component of services at CHNY - 1 in 5 youth experiencing homelessness are also survivors of sex and/or labor trafficking. Reporting to the Director of Mental Health Services, the Administrator of Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) will be a lead staff member in this area of Covenant House New York's service array. The Administrator will be responsible for both clinical social work and aftercare services to AHT survivors, oversight of AHT case management services, as well as administrative and public-facing aspects of our AHT work. With respect to clinical services, the Administrator is the assigned social worker to youth who have experienced trafficking, using a variety of interventions, including evidence based models such as, TF-CBT, SBIRT and Motivational Interviewing. The Administrator will oversee and provide social work/aftercare services to youth who have experienced trafficking, residing in Covenant House's programming located in the Bronx, as well as potentially AHT youth in Covenant House's shelter program located in Manhattan. Additionally, the Administrator will assist in training CHNY staff in AHT screenings; represent CHNY's AHT program within the CH community, as well as in the greater NYC social service community; and manage our Youth Leaders program, which includes administrative support and direct supervision of the youth interns. The Administrator will serve as a consultant/supportive coach to all CHNY staff providing services to AHT survivor youth. The Administrator also will directly supervise the AHT Case Managers at 41st and the Bronx, ensuring that all aspects of the Case Managers duties are performed. The Administrator will need to be comfortable in a rapidly changing environment where processes and protocols are being developed and refined as the program is operating. Additionally, flexibility, a willingness to be available by email or phone in off-hours, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities are critical to successfully fulfilling the requirements of this position.

Requirements

  • Licensed Master Social Worker required; LCSW preferred
  • LMSW must be actively pursuing LCSW designation and must achieve such designation within 3 years of the hire date.
  • Two (2) years' experience providing counseling with at risk youth and/or formerly trafficked youth highly preferred; Internships in this field to be considered.
  • Knowledge of trauma and mental health issues facing multi-stressed youth and families. Familiarity with benefits and child welfare systems preferred.
  • Experience working in a scattered site, shelter or residential setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling and facilitate psychoeducational groups to youth who have experienced trafficking, including short-term crisis intervention and longer term therapeutic work in various modalities, as well as advocacy and follow-up for designated caseload.
  • Supervise AHT Case Managers and Youth Leader interns.
  • Complete psychosocial assessments for youth in our Bronx, or Aftercare programs as needed.
  • Actively link young people to longer term mental health care and psycho-social supports within the community and communicate with providers/social workers at referring agencies as necessary.
  • Participate in all required training, including training and implementation of evidence-based models including but not limited to:
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Lead meetings/Case Conferences with AHT Case Managers to coordinate and collaborate with other residential program staff and leadership to address the needs of youth.
  • Develop and facilitate innovative support/psycho-education/skills-building workshops related to topics such as Prevention, Stress Management, Harm Reduction, Affective Regulation and Healthy Relationships.
  • Provide consultation to CHNY staff, including providing assessments, information (regarding issues around trauma, mental health and substance use), and referrals.
  • Train CHNY staff on AHT assessments as well as how to identify trafficking survivors. Conduct assessments where needed.
  • Speak on panels, present testimony to government officials, and facilitate workshops to the community partners. Speak to potential funders about CHNY's AHT program.
  • Attend coalition and task force meetings, and work closely with law enforcement/ community partners to identify youth for CHNY's AHT program.
  • Oversee the Youth Leader program and collaborate with Legal Services and members of the CH Advocacy team
  • Meet regularly with the supervisor (LCSW) for clinical and other supervision, and to discuss concerns, reflect on practice, and carry out plans for young people.
  • Be vigilant about maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for our youth.
  • Flexible schedule required, including evenings, holidays, and weekends, as needed
