About The Position

To support the district’s media relations goals and objectives as part of a departmental plan to increase public knowledge, awareness and appreciation of district and school operations; and to extend outreach efforts that engage the community through the use of video and promotional media content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in one the following areas: Multimedia Production/Technology, Videography/Photography, Public Relations, Broadcast Journalism, Communications or any equivalent combination of related education, training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Three (3) years of full-time experience in videography/photography, television/digital production, video editing, communications, public relations, broadcast journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license required.
  • The incumbent is considered to be “essential personnel” during an emergency and can be subject to being held over or called back to a district location at all times.
  • Knowledge of successful media and public relations strategies and practices.
  • Professional video production procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology.
  • Ability to gather and synthesize information into easily understandable news-style stories and/or social media posts.
  • Display working knowledge of photography, videography, editing, production equipment, proficient in non-linear video editing, streaming, file compression, and software.
  • Excellent organizational, project and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Must be able to take initiative, display extreme attention to detail, meet deadlines, and effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and directly with internal and external school district audiences.

  • Video shooting and editing experience in a newsroom environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manifest a professional code of ethics and values.
  • Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Models the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
  • Video shoot & edit and coordinate original content for the School District’s various multimedia communications channels.
  • Maintain and grow the school district’s multimedia presence through a variety of video and strategic approaches.
  • Use knowledge and understanding of technology to assist in evaluating, recommending, and coordinating video and photos strategically districtwide.
  • Work with the school district’s Media Relations and Public Relations departments to create and implement video campaigns and assess results.
  • Anticipate multimedia communication innovations and trends and develop a body of knowledge to assist, in Media Promotions for the district.
  • Assist the Chief Communications Officer, Director, Media Relations, and other department/division heads as needed, to communicate emergency information to the media, and internal and external audiences through multimedia platforms.
  • Assist the Media Relations and Public Relations teams in promoting and communicating news and events through video stories.
  • Work with Media Relations/Promotions team to develop and implement proactive district-level multimedia strategies to support positive parental and community engagement efforts of the district.
  • Identify challenges and opportunities pertaining to Teaching and Learning and recommend proactive media relations and communication strategies.
  • Monitors media coverage of issues, events and trends; informs Director of items that affect the district and Teaching and Learning.
  • Provide greater positive exposure for the district through routine placement of video news-style stories on district approved platforms.
  • Prepares video news releases, public statements, and public awareness announcements.
  • Assist in serving as a spokesperson for proactive/media promotions liaison to the news media.
  • Draft emergency messaging for principals in a situation that relates to the Standard Response Protocols (HOLD, SECURE, LOCKDOWN, EVACUATE, SHELTER) as needed.
  • Support periodic/annual events and monthly/weekly district meetings (School Board Meetings, news conferences, etc.).
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all HRMD guidelines, executive limitations, the district’s instructional initiatives and the school district’s charter guidelines.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
  • Develop leadership in subordinates. Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position. Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.
  • Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends, and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
