About The Position

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position is to serve as the Executive Coordinator for the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA)'s Office of the Director and function as a Special Assistant to the Director. This position will provide advanced administrative, operational and analytical support, in order to ensure the effective coordination, execution and monitoring of the Director’s priorities and initiatives. This position will be responsible for independently managing the workflow for the Director’s Office. This position will also be responsible for evaluating and tracking assignments issued by the Director, as well as for preparing briefing materials and summaries to support executive decision-making. Additionally, this position will be responsible for coordinating cross-unit activities and recommending improvements to office processes and internal coordination systems. This position will require the exercise of independent judgment, discretion and problem-solving in handling sensitive matters and ensuring timely follow-through on agency priorities. This position will also require a high level of independence, discretion, and organizational awareness in supporting the operations of the Director’s Office.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Six years of administrative staff or professional work experience.
  • The selected candidate must possess at least one year of experience providing executive-level administrative, operational and/or coordination support to senior leadership.

  • Professional experience tracking assignments, initiatives, and/or action items across multiple teams, including ensuring timely follow-up and completion.
  • Professional experience preparing briefing materials, summaries, talking points, and/or presentations for senior leadership, along with experience reviewing information and identifying next steps to support leadership decision-making.
  • Professional experience managing complex calendars and prioritizing competing scheduling requests for senior leadership.
  • Professional experience coordinating logistics for executive meetings, stakeholder engagements, and/or site visits, including planning travel; preparing itineraries; and coordinating with both internal staff members and external partners.

Responsibilities

Benefits

  • Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.
  • As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.
  • The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
  • You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
  • Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
