About The Position

The Administrator in Training (AIT) program is a structured, state‑approved leadership development pathway designed to prepare future Licensed Nursing Home Administrators (LNHAs) or Executive Directors. Under the supervision of a licensed administrator, the AIT gains hands‑on experience in clinical operations, regulatory compliance, resident care standards, financial management, and staff leadership within a long‑term care environment.

A doctorate or master's degree in health administration, health services administration, nursing, or other healthcare degrees
REQUIRES - 500-hour GA AIT
A baccalaureate degree in health administration, health services administration, health care administration, or nursing, or other healthcare related degree
REQUIRES - 1000-hour GA AIT
An associate degree in nursing or licensed practical nursing certification with four years of full-time work in any skilled nursing facility with the last two years being in management
REQUIRES - 1500-hour GA AIT
Six years of full-time work in any skilled nursing facility with the last three years being in management and no less than 48 semester units or 90 quarter units of college
REQUIRES - 2000-hour GA AIT
Eight years full-time experience in a skilled nursing facility with the last five years being in management, a High School Diploma
REQUIRES - 2000-hour GA AIT

Responsibilities

Learn and support the implementation of resident‑centered care practices.
Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings.
Assist with monitoring clinical outcomes, incident reports, and care‑plan processes.
Observe interdisciplinary team meetings and understand care coordination.
Study and apply federal and state regulations, including: CMS Requirements of Participation State licensing rules Life safety and infection‑control standards
Assist with survey readiness, mock surveys, and corrective action plans.
Maintain compliance documentation and support audit preparation.
Participate in daily facility operations, including rounds and department oversight.
Support scheduling, staffing, and workflow optimization.
Learn emergency preparedness procedures and environmental safety standards.
Assist with vendor management, supply ordering, and maintenance coordination.
Observe recruitment, onboarding, and training processes.
Participate in employee engagement initiatives and performance evaluations.
Learn labor laws, disciplinary procedures, and union considerations (if applicable).
Build strong relationships with nursing, dietary, housekeeping, and therapy teams.
Assist with budgeting, financial reporting, and census development.
Learn billing processes, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private pay.
Support accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions.
Participate in marketing, admissions, and community outreach activities.
Shadow the Administrator and department heads across all operational areas.
Complete assigned leadership projects and present findings to the management team.
Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and ethical decision‑making.
Develop communication, conflict‑resolution, and team‑building skills.
