About The Position

The Administrative Specialist III position at the McHenry County Sheriff's Office involves performing a variety of administrative duties within the Business Office. The position is full-time, with a work schedule of Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Additional coursework in secretarial science is desirable.
  • Ability to type 50 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of record keeping and filing techniques.
  • Considerable knowledge of policies and procedures and overall Division functions.
  • Ability to compile and type statistical reports.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Effective communication skills in verbal and written English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a law enforcement or government setting.
  • Familiarity with labor relations and union negotiations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of administrative duties including typing, filing, record keeping, and transcribing.
  • Assist in a confidential capacity with labor relations pertaining to payroll and benefits.
  • Maintain personnel files and related material.
  • Work closely with the Office and Business Manager and the Sheriff.
  • Perform accounts payable and be responsible for payroll.
  • Give information, take dictation, and relieve officials of clerical and minor administrative work.
  • Read and route incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide information or route calls appropriately.
  • Record minutes of meetings and type privileged correspondence regarding confidential matters.
  • File and sort a variety of documents, including sensitive and confidential information.
  • Compile and create statistical reports, memos, letters, and transcriptions of taped interviews.
  • Perform routine clerical assignments unique to the Division.
