About The Position

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations. We are hiring for a full time, permanent, Hunter Education and Recruitment Assistant located in Salem, Oregon. You will coordinate the posting and reporting on scheduled events conducted by or through the Department's education programs, to coordinate the onboarding of program volunteer instructors and to be the main point of contact for providing general support to the programs' volunteer instructors. These programs include, but are not limited to, Hunter Recruitment, Hunter Education, Outdoor Skills Education and Archery Education programs. A major portion of this work includes explaining laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to instructors in a manner that ensures understanding and instructors act in compliance with state and federal laws, guidelines and policies. This may include developing, coordinating, or delivering written or electronic communications and presentations. You will provide Program support to include in the classroom and in the field, to the Hunter Education Program and provide backup coverage with Fleet maintenance/upkeep and maintaining education section inventory.

Requirements

  • Two years of secretarial or basic administrative support experience that includes records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data; OR
  • An associate degree in general office occupations and one year of experience with records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Good communication, interpersonal, analytical and judgment skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Considerable knowledge in hunting skills, hunter and bowhunting education, equipment, maintenance, range safety, regulations, and trends in hunting.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Strong background and related experience in program coordination and delivery.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks with varying deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Skills in customer service, Microsoft Office Suite, and other data management and computer-based presentation software.
  • Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
