About The Position

All camps share a common purpose: creating an environment where Young Life staff bring Christ to life by creatively presenting the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. Speaking clearly from the Scriptures, camp speakers introduce kids to the person of Christ, the nature of humanity, the work of Christ on the cross, the hope of the resurrection and the opportunity for reconciliation with God. Camping Commitment Statement As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His Gospel, model a full understanding of Young Life’s ministry strategy and equip and lead a team of staff in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God’s love for them. Mission & Authority Through both continued training and direct experience, lead staff and prepare an environment where guests, staff, and volunteers are well cared for using the cornerstones of administrative systems, service and hospitality. This role oversees all of the Administrative Department; staff and development, equipment, financial and statistical reporting, seasonal administrative operations.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent life experience
  • Experience with Young Life as a staff person or volunteer
  • Spiritual maturity including general wisdom and discernment with an ability to contribute to difficult decision processes
  • 4-6 years administrative, project management or similar experience
  • Experience in training and leading teams
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and teaches others to do the same.
  • Experience in organizing and prioritizing tasks
  • Ability to find answers to questions.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office applications and an ability to learn and use all Young Life internal systems

Responsibilities

  • Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.
  • Participate in opportunities for growing deeper in your relationship with Jesus.
  • With direction from supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan.
  • Foster an environment where department staff have opportunities for ongoing spiritual development, including execution of their personal spiritual growth plan.
  • Determine a ministry of Administration statement that communicates goals and practices
  • Attentive Hospitality: Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff and vendors, through Christ-like service.
  • Establish a department posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
  • Demonstrate and train exceptional customer service
  • Administer the reservation systems. Reservations entail the following: o Coordinating reservations for both Young Life and non-Young Life groups. o Coordinating effective communication of reservation contracts and policies. o Coordinating all summer volunteers, including adult guests/hosts, medical volunteers, summer interns, summer staff and work crew.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Help build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.

  • Ensure department staff demonstrate the importance of their interpersonal relationships with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors and promote a healthy community.
  • Maintain healthy communication while working with other departments at camp.
  • Network with other administrative managers to learn and share best practices
  • Work well with summer assigned teams and seek to help them with their ministry goals while at camp
  • Serve as the HR Lead for camp, including maintaining staff personnel files, processing and on-boarding new employees and maintaining sick/vacation leave records for salaried staff
  • Comprehensive Stewardship: Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry.
  • Develop systems and train staff to participate in comprehensive stewardship
  • Provide leadership to the department by setting an example of use of time, personal integrity, service, spiritual devotion, compassion, work ethic, and commitment to the ministry.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the camp accounting processes, including maintaining financial accounts, reports, reconciliations and cash collection/deposits

  • Create and manage the financial budget for the Administrative department
  • Evaluate department systems and processes annually, updating documents to reflect accuracy
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Office, Outlook and other software applications
  • Develop understating for equipment maintenance and operation as needed for admin office(s)
  • Talent Development: Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, we identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing and cross-training.
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.
  • Foster department staff participation in the Individual Development Plan process as well as other training and development opportunities.
  • Intentionally pursue opportunities in mission leadership, personal growth, and development.
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage people by utilizing their strengths and managing their weaknesses.
  • Utilize good hiring and onboarding processes.
  • Establish and execute training for volunteers, work crew, summer staff, and camp staff with vision towards creating a pipeline for the mission.
  • Perform yearly evaluations for those responsible for supervising Embracing Excellence: Standing on the platform of national standards and metrics we gladly prepare an environment that glorifies Jesus Christ.
  • Lead department staff in the execution of daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.

  • Maintain Young Life office reception standards
  • Participate in admin department trainings [events, department calls & communication]
  • Maintain weekly statistics on camper usage, bed count and meal count. Report in a timely fashion to Young Life Camping.
  • Coordinate and communicate the logistical details for summer camp guest, volunteer and assigned team arrival and departure
  • Participate in structured, year-long training process with peer resource coach
  • Attend annual departmental training
  • Participate in periodic department-wide video conferences
  • Regular participation in Young Life trainings and department opportunities
