About The Position

The Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) position involves providing labor-management relations services under the Public Employees' Fair Employment Act (Taylor Law) and the New York State Employment Relations Act. The ALJ is responsible for conducting hearings, preparing decisions, and engaging in legal research to resolve disputes related to labor-management relations.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Six years of substantial experience in labor-management law and relations, primarily under the Taylor Law or similar laws.
  • Experience as a neutral in resolving disputes or as an advocate in adjudicating labor-management disputes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and conduct prehearing conferences to assist parties in reaching agreements.
  • Conduct hearings when resolution is not possible.
  • Engage in legal research and prepare correspondence in response to inquiries from constituents.
  • Prepare proposed decisions in representation matters and improper practice cases, including relevant facts and analysis of precedents.
