About The Position

The City of Salinas is accepting applications for the temporary position of Administrative Clerk I. This is a non-benefited position, employees are limited to working a maximum of 25 hours per week and must not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year. This is the entry-level class in the Administrative Clerk series and is distinguished from the II level by the inability to perform the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Requirements

  • High school/GED
  • One year of general clerical experience
  • Typing speed of 40 net words per minute

Responsibilities

  • Performs general clerical related to assigned functional area and department
  • Types, proofreads and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, memos, and statistical charts from rough draft, dictaphone recordings or verbal instructions
  • Acts as a receptionist; answers the telephone and waits on the general public, gives information on department policies and procedures as required
  • Performs a wide variety of routine clerical work including filing, billing, checking and recording information on records
  • Sorts and files documents and records, maintains alphabetical, index, and cross-reference files
  • Compiles information and data for statistical and financial reports
  • Maintains a variety of statistical records; checks and tabulates statistical data; prepares simple statistical reports
  • Operates standard office equipment
  • Receives, sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • Orders office supplies and submits expense claims
  • Types and distributes minutes from meetings
  • Prepares and maintains address lists, events lists or other records
  • May assist in scheduling and coordinating workshops, meetings and other special events
  • Promotes and maintains safety in the workplace
  • Prepares book orders as necessary
  • May maintain complex files and filing systems
  • Enters data into computer
  • May schedule appointments as necessary
  • Performs related duties as assigned
