About The Position

This position is located at the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Western Region Office in Valdese, NC (Burke County). Positions in this class are characterized by their performance of a variety of administrative, clerical, and office support duties. Positions require knowledge of the office or work unit policies and procedures in order to communicate information involving programs, functions, and services. Duties performed may include preparation of documents and reports, composition of memos and letters, the use of office technology, compiling records, organizing and maintaining files, posting information, greeting, referring, assisting visitors, clients, staff, and others, mail distribution, and photocopying. Positions may serve as the primary staff assistant to a department or program manager. Positions may serve as an office coordinator for a work unit.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • This position is primarily dedicated to greeting the public and other DAC staff, both on the phone as a switchboard operator, and in person in the front lobby of the region office.
  • This position has responsibility for a variety of general typing and transcription duties, correspondence management, record keeping, filing, database management, telephone responsibilities.
  • The position will provide typing and disseminating information throughout the region office.
  • Telephone calls and visits will include contact from other staff and other sections of the Western Region Office or other Department of Adult Correction locations, contact with other agencies, occasional contact from businesses such as vendors and service providers also occasional one-on-one contact with inmates themselves.
  • Public contact will be daily for this position and will typically involve scheduling appointments, switchboard operation, providing information, and following up on inquiries.
  • This position will be responsible for usage orders, various inventories, reconciliation of P Cards, Site Security and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Employees in this position will work in a variety of environments and may work individually or in combination with other office support or administrative employees.
  • Employees in this position may spend a large percentage of time in operating office equipment.
