About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Business Officer I. This position will cross train in all areas of Human Resource and serve as a backup. North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state's primary prison for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders. The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The selected candidate will work Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm. Hours may vary at times depending on the business needs of the facility.

Requirements

  • Documented knowledge on following written and/or oral instruction
  • Documented knowledge using Microsoft 365 Suite
  • Documented knowledge of trust fund and/or accounting procedures
  • Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reports, edit, and manage spreadsheet data
  • Maintain a systematic filing system for accounting
  • Use (NCAS) North Carolina Accounting System and/or E-Procurement to enter requisitions for the facilities accounting department
  • Use a computer to perform personnel assignments in a (HRIS) Human Resource Information System along with clerical duties, and operate various office equipment
  • Prioritize work to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Assist with special projects such as file review, auditing, tracking, etc.
  • Provide assistance with Trust Fund
  • Stand and walk frequently at times within the facility to perform work assignments
  • Always maintain confidentiality
  • Review completed task for accuracy, attention to detail is required
  • Daily contact with female offenders, must always follow prison policies and procedures
