About The Position

The Administrative Assistant in Student Accessibility Services (SAS) at Amherst College is a full-time, year-round position responsible for providing essential office support to enhance the efficiency and operations of the SAS team. The role involves direct interaction with students and staff, ensuring a welcoming environment, and managing various administrative tasks to support the needs of a diverse student population.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years of related experience with some autonomy or Associate's degree.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively.
  • Attention to detail and sound judgment with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn a variety of software.
  • Commitment to serving the needs of a diverse population, including individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front desk reception as the initial contact for all who call, email, or visit the office.
  • Foster a warm, inclusive, professional office environment, acting as a key information resource and facilitating referrals to the appropriate persons/departments.
  • Assess the urgency of requests and take appropriate action, maintaining high sensitivity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Establish and maintain confidential files and utilize databases to ensure organization, completeness, accuracy, and accessibility of information regarding various student processes.
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, programming, and major office recurring activities for the SAS staff.
  • Help with setup and breakdown of programs.
  • Support student testing by printing and scanning exams, handing out and collecting exams, and walking students to testing locations as needed.
  • Act as a backup to the Access Coordinator in their absence.
  • Attend to financial administrative duties, including approving, processing, tracking, and reconciling requests in Workday.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of office supplies for SAS.
  • Cross-train to provide temporary administrative support to other offices as needed.
