Under general direction and supervision of the Strathearn Historical Park and Museum Coordinator, and in cooperation with the Simi Valley Historical Society Board of Directors, this position assists in the day-to-day operation of the Robert P. Strathearn Historical Park and Museum, including general office duties, and facility tours and rentals. This is a people-oriented position for a person with excellent communication skills who can work independently and as an integral part of a team providing recreation and park services to the community. This position works up to 20 hours a week. Typical hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. four days each week. Some variation in hours may be required to accommodate staffing needs, including early morning, evening, and infrequent weekend hours to coordinate and attend events at the park. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to: Communicates with Park District staff, Historical Society Board and members, volunteers, and general public in person and via telephone, e-mail, mail, and fax. Communicates with park patrons and answers questions. Assists with typed correspondence, reports, and business forms with accuracy and speed. Coordinates and maintains current park site events calendar. Processes sale of retail items in the Visitor's Center/Museum, including credit card sales. Assists with ordering office supplies, and other items on an as-needed basis. Assists with facility rentals, including providing pre-rental tours and event-day coordination and monitoring as needed. Assists in coordinating, identifying, photographing, registering, and inputting of artifacts using Past-Perfect Museum collection management software. Assists in determining and reporting safety and park maintenance issues throughout the park. Infrequently provides assistance in the preparation and cleaning the facility by sweeping, dusting, and cleaning the displays, display cases, and furnishings within the Wood Ranch Barn and other buildings or structures as assigned. The position may perform other related tasks as assigned. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires graduation from high school, or G.E.D. equivalent, with one-year experience in general clerical or administrative office duties. Must possess basic working knowledge of administrative and clerical office procedures and standard office equipment, and proficiency in the use of computer and computer software including Microsoft Office and Adobe In-Design is desired. Must be able to learn and use museum collection management software (Past-Perfect). Position requires the ability to organize work, produce finished products that are accurate and professional, prioritize and meet deadlines, exercise good judgement in interpreting instructions and executing responsibilities, adapt to change in assignments and interruption, communicate effectively, and maintain professional constructive and cooperative working relationship with vendors, the public, and co-workers. License: A valid California driver's license with a good driving record is required. A Motor Vehicle Report (not more than 30 days old) from the California Department of Motor Vehicles may be required at the time of employment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position will require sitting approximately 70% of the time; frequent lifting and carrying loads to 20 pounds; some pushing/pulling loads to 40 pounds; some bending, kneeling/squatting, climbing stairs; occasional reaching overhead/stretching; frequent handling and dexterity; ability to traverse rough or uneven terrain; and operation of computer, typewriter, copy machine and other standard office equipment.
