This is a hybrid role to be based out of the Sedgwick Sacramento, CA location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Five (5) years of related experience in risk management, insurance, and/or public agency experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of self-insurance administration including pool structure, governing documents, actuarial studies, attachment points, underwriting processes, regulatory requirements, excess/reinsurance placement, and claims audits
  • Working knowledge of fiscal activities such as budgeting, invoicing, structuring of rates, and distributions
  • Ability to recognize politically sensitive situations and work with the appropriate parties to resolve or address situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products

Responsibilities

  • Develops detailed project plans, task lists, and timelines for the clients’ board to ensure completion of a variety of administrative and strategic initiatives within the pool administration department coordinating effectively across multiple departments.
  • Prepares staff reports and relevant documents, proposals, minutes, and agendas ensuring timely distribution and postings; coordinates client orientation training and prepares and distributes administrative manuals; creates, updates, and maintains files and records including client websites and other media platforms.
  • Organizes board meetings and client retreats including securing meeting locations, negotiating contracts, and scheduling travel/catering; travels to meetings and interacts with clients, governing boards, and vendors; coordinates all on-site meeting activities and takes minutes (in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act requirements when applicable).
  • Initiates timely state filings for financial statements, budgets, Statement of Facts, contractual agreements, conflict of interest, and certificates of insurance renewals; gathers, coordinates, and analyzes underwriting data including financial information, payroll, census, etc. and prepares underwriting recommendations to be presented to the clients; reviews preliminary information sent by brokers and follows up with brokers in obtaining additional information in regards to program renewals and underwriting new member and programs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with clients, prospects, and contacts including brokers, third party administrators (TPAs), pool administrators, finance managers, state agencies, excess carriers, board and group members, and prospective members and responds to their requests in a timely manner.
  • Performs and oversees industry accreditation process; explains processes and coverages to clients; and acts as a main contact for all client related issues.
  • Effectively communicates with colleagues regarding workload, develops presentations and training materials, and acts as a contact for pooling administration colleague inquires.
  • Compiles and analyzes information to make recommendations on the formulation of policies and procedures; researches and provides accurate interpretation of pertinent state regulations and laws governing self-insured programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
