The Administrative Analyst I position at the City of Compton involves providing professional and technical administrative and analytical assistance under general supervision. The role includes compiling and evaluating data to make recommendations on policy, budgetary, staffing, and organizational changes, as well as completing special projects and performing related duties. This entry-level position requires independent judgment and is designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree and some administrative experience.

  • Perform research and statistical analyses on administrative, fiscal, personnel, and operational problems; recommend appropriate actions based on analysis of gathered data.
  • Compile materials and assist in the preparation of reports, manuals, and publications.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new and revised programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation.
  • Assist in departmental budget preparation and administration, purchasing activities, and personnel-related operations; coordinate payroll activities including overtime reporting and paycheck troubleshooting.
  • Develop and monitor control and reporting procedures.
  • Assist in the identification and recommendation of computer software and hardware needs, acquisition/installation, application design and implementation, and computer operation and maintenance.
  • Assist in preparation of grant proposals for various programs and projects of the department or division; interface with governmental agencies regarding requirements for obtaining funds and monitoring procedures.
  • Review present and pending legislation to determine effect on organizational operations, and present recommendations in verbal or written form.
  • Perform customer service duties in maintaining customer or business solid waste accounts; analyze and verify monthly billing, and correct inaccuracies in customer accounts.
  • Assist in preparation of requests for proposals and contract documents for various programs and projects of the department or division.
  • Assist in the coordination of departmental activities with other city departments and divisions, and with outside agencies.
  • Represent the city in the community and at professional meetings as required.
  • Respond to complaints and requests for information.
  • May supervise technical and administrative support staff.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration or related field.
  • Six (6) months of related administrative experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of city organization, operations, departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, and personnel management.
  • Skill in coordinating and performing a variety of professional administrative functions.
  • Experience in public administration or municipal finance.
  • Familiarity with research techniques and report presentation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
