About The Position

The Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) position is a part-time role located in Austin, Texas, within the Central West Texas Division. This position is crucial for overseeing the Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, which currently include two ACGME-accredited programs: Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) and General Surgery. The DIO will play a pivotal role in the anticipated growth of the residency programs, with plans to introduce a new Internal Medicine program in July 2025, followed by Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, and various medical and surgical sub-specialty fellowships. This leadership role is open to physician candidates from any medical specialty and may also consider exceptional non-physician applicants with significant GME experience. The DIO will have the authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of the Sponsoring Institution's ACGME-accredited programs. This includes ensuring compliance with the ACGME Institutional, Common, and specialty/subspecialty-specific Program Requirements. The DIO will collaborate closely with program faculty to identify areas needing improvement and determine the necessary resources to maintain compliance. Additionally, the DIO will work with the Division Vice President of GME and other leaders to enhance the educational quality of each program, fostering a positive culture and outstanding experience for residents and fellows. The DIO will also be responsible for monitoring changes in ACGME accreditation standards and requirements, ensuring that relevant stakeholders within the institution are informed. The position is based at the Graduate Medical Education office at HCA St David's South Medical Center in Austin, with travel expected to 2-3 teaching hospitals within a 20-minute radius as needed. The role offers a blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities, depending on the specialty and availability of practice settings.
