Basic Purpose Performs technical reviews of fire and life safety plans, reviews architectural and engineering plans, specifications, shop drawings, and related documentation. May assist with field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and adopted codes for the State of Oklahoma. Typical Functions Conduct technical reviews of architectural, engineering, and fire protection system plans for compliance with State Fire marshal regulations, the International Fire Code (IFC, International Building Code (IBC), International Existing Building Code (IEBC), and relevant National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Prepare written plan review reports, correspondence, and code interpretations. Provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, contractors and public/state agencies. Assist inspection staff with field inspections and complex construction projects. Support Agency operations during emergency response or post-incident investigations as assigned. Other duties as may be assigned. Level Descriptor At this level employees are assigned responsibilities under the general supervision of the Chief Agent for Plan Reviews and/or Chief Agent for Inspections. This non-commissioned position performs professional, technical work involving fire and life safety plan reviews and/or field inspections. Education and Experience Post-secondary education in Fire Protection, Fire Science, Construction Management, Drafting, Architecture, or a related field; OR equivalent experience in plan reading and code application (experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis). Working knowledge of the IFC, IBC, IEBC, and NFPA standards. Valid Oklahoma driver's license and reliable transportation. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Comprehensive knowledge of the IFC, IBC, IEBC and applicable NFPA standards. Familiarity with building construction methods, fire protection systems, and life safety principles. Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and legal requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and plan review software (e.g., Accela, DigEplan). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments and maintain effective working relationships. Special Requirements Must obtain ICC and NFPA Fire Plans Examiner certification within six (6) months of employment. Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening. Must resident within 30 minutes of assigned workstation.
