This position will serve as a health physicist in the Radiation Safety Office, assisting in the management and implementation of the radiation safety program for the safe and compliant use of ionizing radiation for: 1) The University of Nebraska Medical Center ( UNMC ) and the University of Nebraska Omaha ( UNO ) in accordance with conditions of the UNMC Broadscope Radioactive Material license (Nebraska #01-50-01) and applicable x-ray registrations; 2) The radiation safety duties stipulated in the contractual agreements with UNMC’s teaching hospital, Nebraska Medicine, and the Veteran’s Health Administration (VA) Nebraska/Western Iowa Health Care System ( NWIHCS ). This position may serve as the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer for one or more radioactive material licenses. The work involves both the research and clinical use of ionizing radiation (radioactive material and X-ray units). Assist with developing and implementing policies and procedures in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (e.g., NRC , DOT , EPA , FDA , State of Nebraska). Radiation Safety supports UNMC’s efforts as a recognized center of excellence for teaching, medical services, and research.
