About The Position

This position is available from (11pm-7am) Monday- Friday and Saturday as needed. Maintains and adjusts automatic envelope machines from die-cut blanks or rolls of paper. Installs gears, plunger, rollers, or other machine parts to accommodate specified size envelopes. Turns set screws to adjust feeding, folding, gumming, sealing and glassine applying mechanisms according to size of envelopes made. Operates machine for trial run and measures dimensions of first piece to ensure conformance to specifications. Observes operation of machines and examines machine parts visually to detect worn or outdated parts. Disassembles machine to replace broken or worn parts, using hand or power tools. May provide training and assistance to lesser skilled adjusters/trainees.

Requirements

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent mechanical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to accurately read a ruler.
  • Ability to work and meet deadlines with minimal direction.
  • Ability to change tasks and direction quickly depending on business needs.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must possess ability to work at a rapid pace.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly preferred: Four years previous envelope adjuster experience.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and adjust various types of converting equipment for safe and efficient operation in the production process. This includes the start-up, operation, adjustment to proper parameters involving close tolerances, maintenance, troubleshooting, and cleaning of the equipment.
  • Review job tickets to determine tools, parts and materials necessary for machine changes and/or adjustments
  • Perform machine adjustments both standard and specials to meet job specifications. Ensures product meets specifications as indicated.
  • Troubleshoot problems, repairs/replaces damaged worn components of machine.
  • Assist in performing changes, adjustments and repairs on production machines.
  • Assist in adjuster/operator training.
  • Examine, test, and measure products looking for defects, and ensuring the quality process is followed and standards are met.
  • Analyze mechanical issues on folding & printing equipment and take corrective action accordingly.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
  • Minimize waste: ensure all waste is segregated properly, weighed, recorded and placed in the proper waste container.
  • Change window rolls (overhead)
  • Must be flexible with machine assignment
  • Perform the functions of the Machine Operator (Packer) during breaks and when otherwise needed.
  • Ensure support materials are available to maximize efficiency.
  • Notify the Supervisor of recurring equipment problems and corrective action taken.
  • Attend employee or Adjuster-specific meetings and sessions
  • Comply with company policies including safety rules and regulations ( including wearing proper safety attire; steel toed shoes or coverings, hearing protection, safety glasses, shields and gloves as needed), is not involved in horseplay, is cautious when near equipment and machines, always makes sure safety guards and contactors are in place and operational
  • Maintain clean machine and work area (sweeps, removes waste, etc).
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, employees from other departments, and the facility supervision team to increase safety, ensure quality, and maximize productivity.
  • May provide coverage for operator based on business needs
  • Other duties and assignments as required.
