About The Position

The Department of Psychology at Brigham Young University invites applicants to fill a part-time position in the Department of Psychology to begin Winter Semester 2026. The selected candidate will show commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. Requirements

  • MS or PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
  • Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach about the classification, causes, and treatment of psychological disorders across the lifespan.
  • Ability to teach diagnostic criteria, theoretical models, empirical findings, and ethical considerations related to mental health.
  • Ability to prepare students to think critically about psychopathology in both clinical and cultural contexts, with sensitivity to faith-informed understandings of human behavior and suffering.
  • Ability to assist students with their volunteer experiences in a mental health setting.
  • Relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.
  • Live a life of loyalty to Jesus Christ and His restored Church and align yourself with doctrines and teachings declared by living prophets, seers, and revelators
  • Demonstrate intentionality in building faith in Jesus Christ and testimony of His restored gospel among students and others in the BYU community
  • Teach your subject matter with the Spirit of God and strive to keep it "bathed in the light and color of the restored gospel"
  • Hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend (if a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)
  • Abide by the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Psych 342 (Psychopathology)
  • Teach about the classification, causes, and treatment of psychological disorders across the lifespan.
  • Cover topics including diagnostic criteria, theoretical models, empirical findings, and ethical considerations related to mental health.
  • Prepare students to think critically about psychopathology in both clinical and cultural contexts, with sensitivity to faith-informed understandings of human behavior and suffering.
  • Assist students with their volunteer experiences in a mental health setting.
