About The Position

Teach one or more of the following General Education writing courses: WRTG 150: First-Year Writing - Writing and Rhetoric WRTG 311: Writing about the Arts and Humanities WRTG 312: Persuasive Writing WRTG 313: Advanced Writing for Educators WRTG 315: Writing in the Social Sciences WRTG 316: Technical Communication Course descriptions are available in the BYU Course Catalog. Each writing course has required learning outcomes and recommended assignments as set by the University Writing program. Applicants must be available to teach in-person classes on the BYU Provo Campus and are expected to hold at least three office hours each week, share an office with up to two additional adjunct faculty and be responsive to student inquiries in a timely manner. Office hours may be held in person and/or online and instructor must reside in the state of Utah. Adjunct faculty may be required to attend training prior to the start of teaching assignment, depending on prior teaching experience and familiarity with BYU's writing program. Training for new courses is available annually. Additional employee training may be offered periodically (EEO, accessibility, LMS, etc.). Adjunct faculty do not attend regular faculty meetings and are not required to participate in research or citizenship responsibilities. However, adjunct faculty are invited to participate in ad hoc workshops and events as coordinated by the English Department's adjunct faculty liaison. In the BYU English Department, adjunct faculty may teach up to three courses/semester and/or one course/spring-summer, depending on other BYU concurrent employment and department needs. Adjunct writing faculty are hired on a semester-to-semester basis. BYU is committed to hiring faculty members who enthusiastically embrace and energetically advance its unique mission. Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church.

Requirements

• MA in English, MFA in Creative Writing, or in a comparable field. Required degree must be completed by the start date.
• College-level composition course instruction.
• Applicants must be available to teach in-person classes on the BYU Provo Campus
• Instructor must reside in the state of Utah.
