About The Position

We are seeking individuals who desire to use their unique skills to innovate and make an impact. The Adjunct instructor is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of student experiences at Parker University. Instructors will be required to teach day and/or evening classes, and online courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Responsibilities include teaching from established curriculum but with addition of personal expertise and experience; provide students with timely feedback; grading.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (doctorate preferred) with a minimum of 18 semester graduate hours in the subject being taught
  • Minimum of one year of experience as an instructor or trainer or a minimum of four years of professional experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the subject taught
  • Ability to communicate with students in a clear manner
  • Ability to author tests and lesson plans
  • Computer skills are required including knowledge of Microsoft Office, downloading and installing software, and sending and receiving emails with attachments
  • Ability to conduct normal classroom, laboratory and or online courses.
  • Visual acuity to use a keyboard and view a computer terminal.
  • May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with online teaching and the Brightspace learning management system is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform instructional duties as assigned
  • Participates in faculty development each year as required
  • Actively participate in programmatic and university service
  • Participate in curriculum development by collaborating on curriculum review, evaluation, assessment and revision with program faculty
  • Prepare and submit required records and reports as required and in a timely manner
  • Stay current in both the subject area and instructional methodology
  • Educate and provide academic training to students
  • Ensure students are aware of the competencies necessary for all objectives in the syllabus
  • Design or carry out a lesson plan for each class taught that recognizes students’ abilities, learning styles, etc. and provides accommodation for individual students’ differences
  • Analyze outward signs of problems that students may have that inhibit their achievement and take appropriate action
  • Refer students to Program Director or Dean to overcome those traits that appear to be keeping the student from a high level of achievement
  • Identify and refer students who are “at risk” of leaving the course to the Program Director or Dean
  • Provide ongoing student advisement and academic counseling
  • Use a variety of modalities during instruction (discussion, group work, mini-lectures, question and answer, etc.) to support active learning and student engagement
  • Use a variety of means of both formative and summative evaluation to support student abilities (cooperative learning, reports, and teamwork)
  • Attend new faculty training and adhere to all faculty expectations provided
