About The Position

As a Part-Time Dallas/DFW Nursing Adjunct Faculty member, the primary responsibility is the didactic, lab, and/or clinical education of the students in the BSN program. Nursing adjunct faculty are assigned teaching responsibilities in a clinical area in Texas, lab site, and/or didactic classroom/online, and are expected to contribute to the education of the students, including psychomotor skills, standards of practice, and critical thinking. Adjunct faculty are accountable to the Director of Nursing Academics in DFW. This description sets out minimum expectations and defines the level of performance expected of all faculty.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a doctorate in Nursing
  • Additional ongoing certifications and training desired.
  • Current unencumbered RN license in Texas or other compact state.
  • Practice: minimum of two years of successful clinical nursing practice.
  • Clinical Competence: Able to function with professional accountability in clinical settings.
  • Teaching Competence: Able to create a climate conducive to positive student learning.
  • Technology Competence: Able to use computer technology (Word, Power Point, E-mail, Internet) at a minimum.
  • Recognize the importance of distance education and be willing to facilitate distance education.
  • Provide a high level of professional nursing care to patients and clients.
  • Function as a role model for professional nursing and communicate this role to students.
  • Accept shared responsibility for the planning and implementation of assigned courses, program planning activities, and other needs of the academic programs.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment for students.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, staff, students, agency personnel, and others as necessary in providing public service.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates effective student learning in the assigned clinical setting, lab setting and/or didactic setting.
  • Provides adequate guidance for students in the assigned course(s) related to professionalism, practice, and research.
  • Selects and organizes learning activities, which facilitate the student’s attainment of the course outcomes.
  • Ensures effective evaluations of student practice.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice.
  • Provides a supportive learning environment.
  • Provides feedback on student progress to supervisory personnel.
  • Collaborates with other faculty and administration as requested.
  • Collaborates effectively with the healthcare partner and its staff for clinical courses.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the nursing curriculum, policies, and requirements.
  • Maintains clinical competence and knowledge in area of expertise.
  • Attends all required orientation, training and faculty meetings.
  • Provides a supportive learning environment for students.
  • Teaches assigned number of classes using the prescribed courses of study with established texts and/or prescribed instructional materials.
  • Facilitates effective student learning and provide effective instruction in the online setting.
  • Interacts a minimum of three times weekly with online students. This may include weekly asynchronous and/or synchronous class sessions.
  • Facilitates learning activities for online students.
  • Develops, organizes, and implements and/or evaluates a course in conjunction with teaching team.
  • Communicates course outcomes effectively to students.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the nursing curriculum, policies, and requirements.
  • Meets regularly with the Nursing Faculty and participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating the Nursing Program.
  • Seeks opportunities to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participates in continuing activities to maintain licensure.
  • Performs other assignments as designated by the Director of the Undergraduate Nursing Program (Austin area) or Director of Nursing Academics (DFW area).
