About the position

The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks part-time nursing educators to join our progressive and innovative faculty, staff, and students. Adjunct Clinical Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating students in the clinical environment. This position is for the Salina campus and reports to the Salina Campus Dean. The position of Adjunct Instructor is considered a temporary position for the term of the contract.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, well-constructed feedback for direct patient care and clinical assignments.
  • Guide students in various clinical care areas, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings.
  • Collaborate with department faculty to ensure alignment with program objectives.
  • Foster critical thinking, analytical skills, communication, and problem-solving among students.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to prepare for clinical, lab, and simulation instruction.
  • Create a clinical learning environment conducive to effective learning within resource limits.
  • Enforce appropriate policies and expectations for students in compliance with KUMC policies.
  • Utilize technology tools effectively, including learning management systems, e-mail, and office software.
  • Evaluate student progress using established methods.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by administrative guidelines and legal standards.
  • Attend all required orientations.
  • Attend ALL clinical and lab classes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas or a multi-state RN license issued by another Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • At least 1 year of relevant patient care experience.
  • Strong patient care and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching in a nursing program, with at least one course taught.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant patient experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in precepting and/or mentoring nurses.
