About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor for Sociology is responsible for providing quality instruction to students while maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom. The primary focus of this role is to teach and evaluate students effectively, ensuring that they achieve their academic goals. The instructor will be expected to plan and teach classes as assigned, adhering to the course descriptions and syllabi provided by the department. This position requires a commitment to fostering student learning and engagement through various instructional methods and assessment techniques. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor will supervise the study and learning activities of students, providing guidance and support as needed. The role also involves administrative duties such as submitting requests for necessary equipment, supplies, textbooks, and other instructional aids through the appropriate channels, including the department head or program coordinator. Evaluating the academic progress of students is a critical component of this position, as is demonstrating knowledge of the services, regulations, and procedures outlined in the Adjunct Faculty Handbook. The instructor will be required to submit course grades and perform other administrative tasks as necessary. To enhance student accessibility, the instructor must schedule two office hours each week. In cases where scheduling conflicts arise, a written plan must be submitted to the Dean detailing how students can still access the instructor. It is important to note that office hours are not compensated during the summer session. This position is part-time and offers teaching assignments on a term-by-term basis, which may include fall, spring, and summer semesters. Applications for this role are accepted continuously and reviewed when openings become available, with postings closing yearly on January 31.
