About The Position

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for a part-time, 9-month, Adjunct position in the Department of Mathematics, beginning January 2026. The successful candidate will teach face-to-face undergraduate courses, including algebra-based or calculus-based introductory physics and labs, and introductory astronomy as the need arises. Appointments are generally made on a semester-by-semester basis. Positions are renewable, contingent upon need and performance.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Physics or Astronomy.
  • At least 18 graduate credit hours in graduate-level physics or astronomy courses if holding an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in classroom teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Facility in online communication via email, learning management systems, and online homework platforms.
  • Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Teach face-to-face sections of introductory algebra-based or calculus-based physics courses and labs.
  • Teach introductory astronomy courses as needed.
  • Utilize online homework and learning management systems (Canvas).
  • Hold at least one on-campus office hour per week per section.
  • Maintain communication with the program coordinator primarily via email.
