About The Position

The Part-Time EKG Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing engaging instruction and hands-on training to students enrolled in the Electrocardiography (EKG) Program. The instructor ensures that all coursework and practical components align with institutional objectives, accreditation standards, and current healthcare industry practices. This position involves preparing and delivering lectures, demonstrating EKG procedures, supervising clinical simulations, assessing student progress, and fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports the development of competent and confident healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Prior teaching or training experience in an academic or clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of current best practices and technology in cardiovascular diagnostics.
  • Current certification as an EKG Technician (e.g., CET, CCT, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience performing or supervising EKG procedures in a healthcare setting.
  • Valid license & insured vehicle
  • Must have completed a Train-the-Trainer program approved by the CT Department of Public Health.
  • Valid driver's license and insured vehicle (if travel to clinical sites is required).
  • Must pass background and health screenings per regulatory guidelines.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrocardiographic procedures.
  • Proficiency in performing, interpreting, and troubleshooting EKG recordings.
  • Understanding of cardiac rhythms, arrhythmias, and basic cardiovascular concepts.
  • Strong grasp of patient care, safety, and infection control principles.
  • Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate technical EKG skills to diverse learners.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in using instructional technology and simulation equipment.
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to coordinate classroom and lab activities.

  • Capacity to remain current with new developments in EKG technology and healthcare practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality instruction in EKG theory, cardiac anatomy and physiology, rhythm interpretation, and clinical procedures.
  • Demonstrate and supervise hands-on practice of EKG procedures, lead placements, Holter monitoring, and stress testing.
  • Evaluate student performance through written exams, skill demonstrations, and clinical competencies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and progress records in accordance with university and program policies.
  • Ensure lab safety, equipment maintenance, and proper supply inventory.
  • Participate in curriculum development, faculty meetings, and training sessions.
  • Support the Program Director in ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and accreditation standards.
  • Serve as a professional mentor to students, promoting ethical and compassionate patient care practices.
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continuing professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
